Charcter Generation

Same as normal Thrash characters, except maybe for the racial special traits (see below). Also, take note of the unique Active Chi bonuses. You may also find handy to get the training rules found in Saint Seiya. Elementals are non-existent, so isn´t slash power and the Elemental Power sorcerery path.

Active Chi

*These is an adaptation of the Active Chi system found in Saint Seiya with some changes*

As Chi is the energy of life itself all living things have a certain amount of energy within themselves (even inanimate objects for Chi flows freely trough the ley lines). But it is also true that if we could make use of all that energy as we pleased even the weakest among the weaklings would get a fighting chance at the Tenkaichi Budokai. DB-Z fighters have learned how to nurture and channel that energy and it reflects in the huge amounts of Chi energy they can store within their bodies (normal humans have just a Chi reserve of 2d6), but even when they have great powers only the strongest can tap on their full potential at will. This limitation is called Active Chi and it reflects how much of that energy the character can tap at a given time.

This limit varies according to race, being this the percentage of their base Chi they can syphon every 3 turns under normal circunstances. When engaged in combat, that limit can increasea according to the effort and spirit one demonstrates into the battlefield. Each time a character shows real courage and effort in battle, the GM rolls 1d10 and informs that player that his character's active Chi has increased on a percentage equal to the results of that die.

Here's the good news: In the process of extended battles, If a character reaches the 100% of their base Chi the subsequent rolls are used to INCREASE the character's base Chi attribute on a number a number of points equal to that die roll. In any case, after the battle finishes the character's Active Chi drops to its base level. As a character's active Chi increases so does his confidence and "combat spirit". When doing damage, DB-Z characters add the difference between their Activo chi points and that of the oponent to the sum, note that this can result in a negative number if the oponent has more active chi points at that moment, this is a reflection on how decisive Chi is in DB-Z battles. In battles, fighters with higher active chi points may choose to temporally lower their Active Chi in order to fight as equals with inferior oponents.

*EXAMPLE: Fighter A has 80 chi points and an active Chi of 50%, and so he can syphon 40 Chi points every 3 turns. He is smashed by fighter B, with 100 Chi but an Active Chi of 20% (can use 20 Chi per turn), fighter B rolls damage and the result is a 15, but then, we add the differece of Active chi points between him and fighter A, 15*his damage*+(20*his active chi points* - 40*fighter A´s) = 15-20... the attack does no damage!*

*EXAMPLE 2: Fighter A smashes back fighter B, he rolls damage and his damage is a seven, adding the Active chi difference the result would be 7+(40-20)= 7+20= 27 points of damage, gotta hurt!*

Races


Beign of a race other than human counts as per an advantage, having the privilege of being able to buy exclusive traits and maneuvers, in addition to the race´s natural modifiers. Humans may not have acces to this but this also means they will be saving their CPs for more (and better) maneuvers, can choose any number of any fighting styles, as well as any discipline, advantage, or any other traits. Base Active Chi for humans is 20%.

ALIEN(+3): Includes all miscelaneous alien races. +1 to stamina. Can buy traits from the thrash´s Mutant Animals section. Base Active Chi is 45%. Can buy Transformations even over other transformations. Cannot buy Attuned, Spontaneous Moves, Positive Chi, Meditation, Vital Points or Weapon Improvisation.

BIO-ANDROID(+15): +1 to strenght. Can buy traits from the thrash´s Cybernetcis section. Bio-Androids are not detected with Sense Chi. Cannot buy Transformations, Spontaneous Moves, Aura of Power, Inverse Rage, Sorcerery, Psychic. Feng Shui, Positive Chi, Meditation, nor any spiritual or supernatural oriented traits, disciplines or maneuvers (energy based maneuvers are still ok). Base Chi is 20%+5% per turn to a maximum of 70% (drops again to 20% when the fight ends).

COSMIC BEING(+6): Includes the Kaiou, Kibito and Mr Popo. Rage is Zero, can perform super maneuvers at will. Can buy maneuvers from Saint Seiya´s Golden Saints section with the exception of Lightspeed and Hand of God. Cannot acquire cybernetics and I don´t think you want them in the first place. Base Active Chi is 40%.

HALF SAIYAN(+7): +10% extra XP after each gaming session. Base Active Chi is 20%.

MAJIN(+9)
: +5 to soak. Cannot buy Meditation, Vital Points, Psychic, Weapon Improvisation, Weapons Mastery or Cybernetics, Appearance cannot exceed 3. Base Chi is 50%.

NAMEK(+5): +1 to int. Prerequisites: Psychic (no, I´m not bothering on "helaer" namekans, mainly because if you´re reading this, I don´t think you´re the type that would create a healer anyway). Cannot buy Cybernetics, Weapon Improvisation or Weapons Mastery. Base Active Chi is 35%.

SAIYAN(+8): +1 strenght. Cannot acquire Cybernetics, Sorcerery, or Attuned. Can only buy Positive Chi and Spontaneous Moves if trainin with a Human Mentor or Int attribute is 8 or higher. Base ACtive Chi is 38%.

Racial special Traits

Adaptoid(+8): Built from other races DNA. Can buy other races traits and maneuvers. Prerequisites: Bio-Android.

Expansion Capabilities(+10): Upon absorbing another bio-Android life-support battery, the bio-android acquires a transformation worth as many character points as the victim´s Will+Focus. Prerequisites: Bio-Android.

Morphing(+2): Can alter physical shape at will: stretch, sink, fatter, thinner, compact oneself into a ball, flattening the body to 1cm, changing appearance to look like someone else (but color is unchanged). Prerequisites: Majin.

Power Battery(+2): Regenerates an amount of Chi per turn equal to his focus damage. Prerequisites: Bio-android.

Regeneration(+7): Can regenerate his body from little bits as long as the character´s Chi is not below 30. Can only be killed if reduced to a negative amount of health points equal to his PE times four. Prerequisites: Majin.

Regrowth(+4): Same as the mutant animal´s power. Prerequisites: Namek.

Saiyan Fury(+6): Upon reaching rage threshold, the character´s Active Chi reaches 100%. Prerequisites: Half Saiyan.

Space Survival(+2): The character can survive in the void of space or the depths of the sea, needs no oxigen to live. Prerequisites: Alien.

Super Energy Battery(+30): Chi is 100 and base Active Chi is 100%. Chi capacity is destroyed, doesn´t recives the benefits of experience anymore (ie no more XP for that character from now on). Prerequisites: Bio-Android.

Zenkai Power(+18): Each time the character is reduced to zero health points recieves either 1 attribute point or +5 to Chi. Prerequisites: Saiya or Half Saiyan.

DB-Z Maneuvers


As you might have guessed, maneuvers not covered in thrash´s insurance. Any maneuver not found here can already be created with the standard thrash´s system (or I just forgot to put it).

MODIFIERS

CHI BLAST

Smart Blast(+8): The owner can imbue the blast with some limited intelligence (1 point per 9 Chi spent) and, according to its intelligence, can perform tasks from chasing targets until it hits to even play pranks on the target and talk. The blasts cannot have more intelligence than their owner and are used up the moment they touch something (ie they do damage and vanish).

Duplication

This rather weird maneuver allows the user to make duplicates of oneself on the fly. There´s no limit on the number of duplicates but user divides his health, chi, and style level between he and his replicas.

Fuzion

Two characters fuse their bodies and souls into one, creating a new warrior even stronger than both characters together. The prime requisite is that the two participants need to possess the maneuver and must have an equal number of Active chi points at the moment of performing it. The new warrior´s stats are as follows:
   ATTRIBUTES: Each attribute is equal to that of the stronger character plus the average of the two.
                          May surpass 10.
   ACTION POINTS: The sum of the two.
  CHI: The sum of the two, base Active Chi is the sum of the two minus the average of the two.
  HEALTH: The sum of the two.
  DIZZYING THRESHOLD: Same as attributes.
  RAGE THRESHOLD: Same as attributes.
  STYLE LEVEL: Same as Rage threshold
The new warrior knows all the maneuvers of the participants as well as possessing all their skills, disciplines, advantages and disadvantages, but oposing advantages and disadvantages negate themselves. When the two possess the same skill or discipline the new warrior will have it at a level equal to the sum of the two. This maneuver cannot be acquired at character creation and can only be learned in the outer world. The Fuzion lasts for 20 minutes.

Growth

This manuever allows the user to grow as many times over as his Will attribute (ie a Namek with will 6 can grow up to 6 times his normal size). Each extra size increases +6 to health and +3 to soak; each two sizes increases by one all of his physical attributes and each 5 sizes multiplies the damage of all attacks x2. For soak purposes, the giant character is treated as Mecha (read Mecha Thrash).

Henka Beam (SUPER)

A magical energy blast with the ability of transmuting matter, be it animate or innimate. The two oponents rolls (focus+Active chi points) VS (stamina+Active chi points). The attacker must also spend an amount of Chi equal to that of the defender times 1.5.

Limbs Extension

The Namek can stretch any of his limbs a lenght equal to their stamina in hexes. Can be combined with any maneuver for which it results reasonable (no chi blasts) extending its move.

Mystic Absorption(SUPER)

This dreaded maneuver enables the majin to absorb another creature into itself, absorbing also his power and maneuvers. The majin covers a target in a blob of his own mass. Once inside, the two contestants make continued contested will rolls, each time the target looses he looses Chi based on the attacker´s base damage. When the target´s Chi is reduced to zero, the victim disolves into the blob and the blob return to its creator endowing him with the target´s power as follows
   ATTRBUTES: +1 per 3 points of the victim (cannot absorb appearance or will).
   CHI: 1/5 of the target.
   HEALTH: 1/2 of the target.
Except for maneuvers, knowledges cannot be absorbed. As you have noticed, not all of the subject´s power is absorbed for part is lost on the struggling and the chemical and magical reactions. the blob constantly regenerates itself, the only way to break free is area effect maneuvers like Chi star or similar. The majin can only benefit if the target has a power similar to his own, otherwise, no benefits are gained.

Share Life


The user can trade his life for another to be resurrected!. The deceased´s spirit must be present in order to perform the maneuver.

¿Why do I bother with this when I hate the DBZ TV series almost as fiercely as I hate Pokemon?

A: For kicks, fun.

B: Because the DBZ RPG by bird studio that I used to play is still on a VERY preliminary stage and the system is a mess, but has a lot of potential.

C: Because I desperately need something to stuff this page (and I was planning to do it for mere curiosity anyway).
